About Flag Football Coach
Why this site exists
Somebody has to coach the team. The league needs volunteers, every parent looks at the ground, and somehow your hand went up.
Or maybe it didn't. Maybe you got the email that said "Congratulations, you're the coach!" for a sport you've never played, with a first practice on Tuesday.
This site is for you.
What you'll find here
Free, complete guides written for parent volunteers coaching flag football for the first time:
- Start Here: the complete beginner's guide. What the game is, what to teach first, what you can safely ignore.
- Practice plans: minute-by-minute scripts and full-season plans by age group. Print one and you're prepared.
- Drills and plays: explained in plain language, with diagrams, in the order you should teach them.
- Coach’s Handbook: rules without the rulebook language, positions explained, and honest answers to "what age should my kid start?"
No experience assumed. No jargon without an explanation. No paywall on the basics. A parent who's giving up their Tuesdays to coach other people's kids shouldn't have to buy a course to do it well.
How the content is made
Every guide here is built from established youth coaching sources (USA Football's development framework, NFL FLAG rules and materials, and the accumulated practice knowledge of experienced youth coaches), cross-checked across multiple sources before it goes up. When leagues do things differently (and they do), we say so, and we tell you to check your own league's rulebook.
Flag football debuts at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Participation is surging, which means more first-time parent coaches than ever. We think they deserve better than a rulebook PDF and good luck.
